The details
A rinse-out product gets seconds on your hair. A leave-in gets hours. That difference is the whole point of this step: it is the only part of the ANATOMY system that stays in the fiber, so it is the one that keeps the reconstruction reaction running long after you have left the bathroom.
Damage from bleach, heat, or color breaks the disulfide bonds that hold keratin together inside the cortex. That broken internal structure is the real problem; frizz and brittleness are only the symptoms. The Leave-In carries the same two patented molecules as the rest of the system, Aminalyl S and Pro-amino X, into the fiber and holds them in contact with those broken sites, where they form new covalent carbon-sulfur bonds. The reaction belongs to the click-chemistry family recognized by the 2022 Nobel Prize in Chemistry.
Then it does the protective half of the job. It flattens the cuticle over the newly formed bonds and shields the fiber against the next round of heat and friction. Reconstruction on the inside, a sealed surface on the outside.
In independent single-fibre tensile testing at SGS Proderm, the full protocol took bleached hair from 15.2 to 35.8 centinewtons of breaking force, a 135% increase, and left it more flexible rather than brittle. The Leave-In is the strongest single step if you start with one product; the shampoo and conditioner prepare and extend the same chemistry. Lightweight, no silicones, no buildup.
